Planning underway for community Christmas dinner

Christmas Day may be more than a month away but the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau already is gearing up to make sure this year’s community dinner is as successful as in the past.
And volunteer bureau co-ordinator Vanessa Hebert, who is organizing the dinner for her first time this year, said everyone is welcome to get involved.
“We have the core committee that’s been doing it for quite a few years, but also have lost a few volunteers since last year,” she noted yesterday.
While an exact date has yet to be confirmed, Hebert is contacting volunteers for a meeting next week, after which time the drive for food and cash donations—and volunteers to help out at the dinner—will begin.
“I know one thing is we’ll need people to cook turkeys and hams,” she noted. “Last year we had someone use the ovens at the Bonnie Blue, but I don’t think that will happen this year.
“We also have ‘Meals on Wheels’ that day and we might need extra drivers,” she added.
Volunteers also will be needed to help serve at the event, which likely will take place at Knox United Church once again this year.
Hebert noted early donations of money or food, like hams and turkeys, are welcome as soon as possible.
