With COVID-19 cases back on the rise, the current high school sports season is uncertain.
The Muskies’ winter court season, boys basketball and girls volleyball, began on Dec. 9 in Atikokan and games slated to be played on Dec. 14 were cancelled due to bus shutdown.
Muskie boys and girls hockey teams were due to combine for a black and yellow game that was cancelled due to a closure at the arena. The Muskie girls also had to reorganize a fundraising event as COVID cases were discovered at the school and they were not allowed to have community members in the building.
Athletic Director Tyson Grinsell says that the future of the season at this time is unsure.
“We haven’t heard about what is going to happen yet in the new year, we will have to wait and see what happens,” Grinsell said. “We’re hoping that we will be able to resume our seasons as scheduled. But we will have to wait and see what directives we receive from the health unit at that time.”
