Fire department stressing holiday safety

While the holiday season should be a time for celebration, the Fort Frances Fire Department once again is warning people not to let the festivities turn to tragedy.
“In the past, both here and elsewhere where I’ve worked, we have had house fires at Christmas, which can be a especially devastating,” Fort Frances Fire Chief Steve Richardson said.
“And we don’t want to see that happen again,” he stressed.
While the fire department has a myriad of safety tips related to the holiday season, Chief Richardson said one of the most important is to just be responsible.
“It’s a fact many fire deaths are caused by alcohol. We refer to it as a ‘dangerous mix’ when cooking, and when people are around candles and things like that,” he noted.
“Make sure you’re stove isn’t left unattended. Be responsible,” he stressed.
