Come test drive a car for a good cause

On Monday, Fort Frances GM will be hosting a fundraiser for childhood cancer.

Danielle Hammond, marketing and public relations manager at the Fort Frances GM had heard about 13-year-old Cadance Sinclair participating in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada where people of all ages across Canada set a personal riding goal to achieve within the month of August to fight childhood cancer.

Sinclair’s goal was to ride 300 km and raise $2,500. As of this week, she has surpassed that goal, raising over $3,000. Hammond said they are trying to get Sinclair to $4,000 through the fundraiser.

Hammond said when she reached out to Sinclair’s mom about doing the fundraiser, they were very excited.

“Even if you don’t know someone specifically, or have someone close to you that suffered, everyone knows someone. It’s super important to us to help the cause,” Hammond said.

According to the Great Cycle Challenge website, over 1400 children are diagnosed with childhood cancer every year and it is one of the biggest killers of children from disease in Canada.

This is a personal challenge for Sinclair and her family as her aunt, Tara-Lynn, passed away from childhood cancer.

“When we heard about this, and what she was doing, we really wanted to find a way to help. We thought that one of the last days in August, we can try to raise as much money as possible,” Hammond said.

The fundraiser will take place from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. Hammond said they will donate $10 for every vehicle taken for a test drive and Sinclair will also be selling t-shirts.

Lou’s Sweet Treats will also be there but the proceeds made will not be going towards the fundraiser.

Although the fundraiser is also for one day, Hammond said they love being able to help the community and that hopefully it is something that they can continue to do in the future.

Hammond said people can also come by to the dealership to donate if they do not want to purchase a t-shirt or test drive a vehicle. Donations can also be made directly to https://greatcyclechallenge.ca/Riders/CadanceSinclair .
