Family springs surprise on mother

It would be just another visit with son, LeRoy, and family in Minneapolis, looking after the household while he and his wife were gone to Florida to visit her folks at their winter retreat.
At least, so thought my wife, Adelia.
She should have got her first clue something was up when LeRoy urged her to come a week earlier and spend more time to see the sights of the Twin Cities. Mother complied with the request, settling down comfortably at the house.
That’s when LeRoy advised her that she was going on an all-expenses paid four-day trip to Las Vegas (first surprise). Then upon arriving there, she was met by her eldest son, David, from Red Deer, Alta., and his oldest son, Andrew, of Calgary (second surprise).
All this had been planned ahead as a belated 68th birthday gift.
Once Adelia returned to Minneapolis, LeRoy and wife, Karen, started their vacation to Florida. In the meantime, grandma spent time watching her grandchildren take part in basketball and hockey games.
It was a memorable vacation/babysitting trip long to be remembered by Adelia.
Once back home last Wednesday morning (Feb. 13), Adelia got right back into her routine here, attending her usual card games at the Legion that evening and then working at the “Wheels to Meals” program the following day (Thursday).

The Emo-Devlin-Barwick Minor Hockey Association held its annual initiation jamboree last Saturday at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre and everyone enjoyed the fun-filled day that included hockey, refreshments, and movies.
Two novice teams from Fort Frances and Lake of the Woods joined Emo Red for the jamboree.
A penny table featuring all kinds of giftware was set up in the arena lobby, and a door prize was drawn for. Each child also received an appreciation trophy for participating in the activities.
The motto for the day was “Hockey for the fun of it,” and the committee wishes to thank all the sponsors who made the day a success.
