Wildfire Incident – Restricted Fire Zone – Emo Township

A.C.E.L. Fire & Emergency Services would like to provide an update on an incident that occurred last week. At approximately 3:15 p.m. on April 24, Emo station responded to an out of control wildland fire, which originated from a burn barrel. The fire was quickly brought under control by first arriving crews in what could have become a significant incident.

This incident occurred during a Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ). This fire got out of control requiring an emergency response and taking personnel away from their homes at this precarious time (COVID-19) for what was entirely preventable.

As the investigation is ongoing, no further details will be released at this time, however By-law 2019-03 has a Part 1 component that details potential offences, including the Offence for Burning during a fire ban or RFZ which carries a Set Fine of $250.00. Further each fire apparatus that respond to this type of incident as per the User Fee By-law can be billed out at the current MTO rate which is $485.00 per fire apparatus, per hour.
