There has been a new fire chief chosen for Alberton, Emo, Chapple and LaVallee, happy to say Darren Hughes has taken on that role. His position began July 20.
He replaces Josh Colling who recently left his position as fire chief for our rural townships.
Darren brings with him 20 years of experience as a volunteer firefighter.
He said this position will be a challenge, but he will give it his all.
Our rural communities wish him all the best as he takes on this endeavour to keep our communities safe.
There was a fire Saturday (July 18) a family on Angus Road in Chapple lost their home and all their belongings.
Upon arrival the structure (house) was fully involved in fire.
North and South stations responded with Emo responding immediately LaVallee station was put on standby.
An additional tanker was supplied via Mutual Aid by Morley Fire Department who also secured a secondary water source location.
The fire was quickly brought under control. The home’s occupants are ok and the general public was never at immediate risk.
The fire is believed to have originated from a stove top while cooking.
This is not suspicious in nature however the investigation continues.
The estimated loss is $350,000.00.
Congratulations to Marvin Hatch on his recent retirement.
Marvin’s last day with Witherspoons Sand and Gravel was June 9. He was a valued truck driver for the company for 21 years. He started there as soon as relocated from Toronto. Marvin is 65 and our community wishes him all the best in this next stage of your life.
Pleased to report there will be a Rainy River District Fall Fair Queen this year. As can be expected, the contest will be conducted differently then previous contests due to COVID.
It is hopeful the crowning will take place outside, so some spectators can attend.
This years contestants are Cheyanne Chambers, Taya Hargarty, Micaela Jolicour, Taryn McQuaker, Raelle Redford and Tyanna Wood.
Here’s wishing all six girls a great experience with this contest.
And hats off to the Mary and Ashley Croswell, Sis McCormick, and Debbie Carlson.
There will be a mini King and Queen contest also this year.

Very quietly an elderly wife said to her elderly husband on the eve of their 50th. wedding anniversary “I’m having an affair.”
He turned to her and asked… “Are you having it catered?”
And that my friend is the definition of OLD!!!
