The 20th-annual “Sharathon” at KBHW Radio in International Falls was its most successful yet, station manager Bruce Christopherson enthused.
During the three-day event held last month, KBHW fielded telephone calls and letters from 525 supporters, who made “Faith Promises” in the amount of $171,746 over the next 12 months.
Owned and operated by a not-for-profit organization, Heartland Christian Broadcasters Inc., KBHW Radio does not sell advertising so listener support accounts for much of its annual operating budget.
“‘Faith Promises’ made during ‘Sharathon’ typically account for one-half to two-thirds of [our] total operating budget,” said Christopherson.
“God had always been faithful to supply for our needs through our listeners,” he added.
During the year, many people give to support the station without having made a “Faith Promise” during our “Sharathon,” Christopherson said, and quite often those who made a “Faith Promise” will give more than that amount.
Christopherson said he is anticipating great things in the coming year.
“KBHW is entering its 20th year of broadcasting with a number of exciting opportunities on the horizon,” he noted. “Pending [U.S.] Federal Communications Commission approval, our listening area will be growing with the addition of several new translator stations on the Iron Range of northern Minnesota.
“These translators will allow KBHW to better serve several areas, and increase our potential listening audience by many thousands of people.”
KBHW is a 100,000-watt FM station based in International Falls. Broadcasting on 99.5 FM, it proclaims the Good News of the Gospel 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
