John Reid, the former Member of Parliament for Kenora-Rainy River, was laid to rest yesterday. His funeral was held in Ottawa.
Reid passed away in Ottawa on Aug. 25 after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 85 years old.
Reid represented the riding, which has since been dissolved with parts in both Kenora and Thunder Bay-Rainy River ridings, from 1965 until 1984.
He had many accomplishments during his time in Parliament, including a bill which would become the Access to Information Act.
Reid was appointed as Canada’s 3rd Information Commissioner from 1998 until 2006 and was honoured with the Distinguished Service Award by the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians in 2002.
