CHARLOTTE MARLENE CALDER

Charlotte Marlene Calder

It is with great sadness that the family of Charlotte Calder announce her passing on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 in Fort Frances, Ontario.

Charlotte Marlene Calder was born August 14, 1942 to the late Charles and Magna Hodges in Rainy River, later moving to Fort Frances. She began working in the summer months at the Lake of the Woods tourist camps, then working in Fort Frances at various jobs being Rainy Lake Hotel, Kingsway Transport and Premium Cleaners. There was not a stain around that Char could NOT get out! After many years here, she started her own laundry business at home for approximately 10+ successful years with many satisfied customers. She was the best stain—getter—outter ever!

Charlotte also was very active being a lifetime member of the Branch 29 Legion Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a volunteer custodian and member of the Church of the Holy Spirit where she could be found tidying up and listening to loud music tunes while cleaning! When mom wasn’t at the church she could be found baking her famous apple pies for Roz, making fabulous banana breads for the Metis women at the office, or her delicious peanut butter cookies that her grandchildren and family old and young so enjoyed. She never left the house without her hair done, often teasing her girls about how, unlike them, she would never be grey!

Mom was a very avid sports fan and had spent many hours in front of the T.V. watching various sporting events. She also loved visits from her many grandchildren, but the light of her life was her granddaughter Trista, whom she spent many fun filled days with.

Char married “Chips” Gordon Calder on September 14, 1974 and had two children, Charlene and Valley (Melissa), while Chips adopted her two boys Kelly and John (Robyn). Together they had a large beautiful blended family with Leanne, Carla, Roz and Pam (Patrick) from a previous marriage.

Charlotte is survived by her daughters Charlene, Leanne, Carla, Roz and Pam; sons Valley, Kelly and John; as well as her sister Shirley Thacker, Kitchener, Ont. and Ken Hodges, Melville, Ont. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren with another one on the way! She was very blessed.

Mom was pre-deceased by her husband Gordon “Chips” Calder; her parents; brothers Norman and Lloyd; sisters Helen, Ethel, Gene and Eileen; as well as brothers-in-law Andy McQuaker, Leslie Wilson and Bill Ewald.

A Celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29, Fort Frances from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Please remember masks and social distancing). Thank you.
