Parting doctor saves life

Dear editor,

I would like to thank Dr. McGuire at the Emo Clinic for her foresight and commitment. I will always be thankful for her care. In November, my prescription need renewal and I was told I needed to see a doctor for the renewal. I made the appointment and I was told Dr McGuire would be my new family doctor. I was further told that because of Covid, the appointment would be by telephone. During the telecon, she asked me how many times I went to the bathroom at night. I told her 4 or 5. She said that is not normal and that she  was would order an Ultra Sound. I went for the scan and a few days later the clinic called and said for me to expect a call from a TBay doctor. A few minutes later, the TBay doctor called and told me to immediately go to Emerg. He told me that I had a Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. He said “your big artery that supplies blood to your legs has a 8 cm bulge on it and it can rupture at any minute. He said that if it ruptures I will  bleed out in minutes. Currently, I am in Thunder Bay Regional awaiting transfer to Toronto General.

I have no symptoms, no pain or discomfort. I feel completely normal.

I feel that Dr McGuire has saved my life, I know that other doctors would have just renewed the the script without asking me any questions. In fact, I felt the same way when she ordered the scan. I thought that just sign my prescription and I will be on my way.

I understand that Dr. McGuire will be leaving Emo. We need doctors like her and she will be missed. In closing, I would like to personally thank her for she has saved my life. PLEASE  STAY DR. McGUIRE….WE NEED DOCTORS LIKE YOU !!!!!
