Mark Gerber

Dear Editor,
I appreciated the article in last week’s paper, “Focus on Farming.” Yes, I believe our parents made a good choice when we moved here in 1961 – father and mother with us 12 children. It was actually the Canada Department of Immigration that “picked” the Rainy River District for us, saying they would like to have some farmers there from Switzerland. (This is the country that we came from.) Recently, I was reading again the story of Genesis chapter 8, where God allowed and even had to judge the whole Earth with a flood because “it was filled with violence.” (Genesis 6:13)
As for myself – an old farmer and gardener – I have always been encouraged by the promise of God in Genesis 8, verse 22, where we read: “While the Earth remains, Seed time and Harvest, and Cold and Heat, and Winter and Summer, and Day and Night shall not cease.”

“Not everything is cancelled.
Sunshine is not cancelled,
spring is not cancelled,
love is not cancelled,
relationships are not cancelled,
reading is not cancelled,
naps are not cancelled,
devotion is not cancelled,
music is not cancelled,
dancing is not cancelled,
imagination is not cancelled,
kindness is not cancelled,
conversations are not cancelled,
hope is not cancelled.”

Yours truly,
Mark Gerber
