Dear editor,
It was a sad day for me when I learned about the flooding throughout Rainy River District. It brought back memories from the flood of ’97 here in Winnipeg.
I worked many hours and days building berms around houses in hope of saving people’s properties and belongings. Even after the worst was over, the work had just begun.
Shortly after that flood, I found myself in California experiencing yet another flood they called El Nino.
One thing I have learned when it comes to something like this is that everybody has to work together. Being from Fort Frances myself, I know that the people will pull together and get through this.
One way of looking at this is that it will build stronger communities—and strangers will become almost family.
I wish you all Godspeed in a quick recovery.
