Region sees four new fires

Four new forest fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region yesterday.
Fort Frances Fire #15, located near Marmion Lake by Atikokan, was listed as “not under control” at 0.1 hectares.

Meanwhile, Fort Frances Fire #16, located on an island on Marmion Lake, also was “not under control” at 0.1 ha.
Both of these blazes were human-caused.
Elsewhere, Nipigon Fire #20, located near Brace Lake, was listed as “not under control” at 0.1 ha while Thunder Bay Fire #15, near Shabaqua, was declared “out” at 0.1 ha.
There also are eight fires that are “being monitored” in the Northwest region.
The forest fire hazard is “low” throughout the entire region.

In related news, Ontario continues to provide support to B.C. and the Northwest Territories in a firefighting effort that has been ongoing since mid-summer.
As of yesterday, there were 255 personnel on assignment out of Ontario, including 45 in the Northwest Territories and 210 in B.C.
