Rash of vandalism here

The Rainy River District OPP has seen a recent escalation in property crimes over the past two weeks.
Many of the incidents involved vandalism to vehicles and thefts.

To help residents understand the impacts of these crimes, the following list demonstrates the general location, nature of the crimes, and the type of items thieves are targeting.
The public is asked to contact OPP if they observe suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
•700 block of Second Street West–culprit(s) smashed items along roadway;
•600 block of Keating Avenue–residential lamp post and light broken;
•700 block of Second Street West–solar lights smashed on roadway;
•1000 block of Third Street East–rear window of van smashed and wallet stolen from inside vehicle (wallet later recovered by police but health card and Ipod Shuffle still missing);
•1200 block of Third Street East–window in van smashed (no items stolen);
•300 block of Second Street East–passenger window pried open and package of tobacco stolen from inside vehicle;
•600 block of First Street West (rear alley)–side window of vehicle smashed and wallet missing (later recovered by police on next block but cash was taken from wallet);
•200 block of Scott Street–flower pots kicked over in front of businesses;
•800 block of Colonization Road West (Flinders Place)–side window of pickup truck smashed and black/yellow pack sack taken containing marine supplies;
•900 block of Smith Avenue—side window of vehicle pried out ($100 in cash and $30 in coins were taken, along with three Xbox games);
•900 block of Crowe Avenue–vehicle window smashed and camera stolen from inside vehicle;
•900 block of Crowe Avenue–stolen property (purse) located by police and returned to owner;
•900 block of Phair Avenue–vehicle window smashed and wallet stolen;
•500 block of Third Street West–van window smashed;
•900 block of Crowe Avenue–truck window smashed (lunch kit removed from truck but located outside of vehicle);
•900 block of Crowe Avenue–vehicle entered and rummaged through (cash taken);
•1000 block of Crowe Avenue/Phair Avenue–stolen property located/recovered by police;
•400 block of Keating Avenue–pickup truck window smashed;
•J.W. Walker School–graffiti spray-painted on building walls and entrance doors (purple spray paint was used);
•900 block of Phair Avenue–window smashed on pickup truck;
•Frenette Avenue/Fifth Street East intersection–stop signs spray-painted;
•500 block of Third Street West–business pickup truck window pried out and smashed (cash taken);
•900 block of Smith Avenue–pickup window smashed (change taken and driver’s licence stolen);
•900 block of Armit Avenue–side window smashed of vehicle parked in back lane; and
•900 block of Armit Avenue–culprit(s) entered an unlocked vehicle and stole an XM satellite radio receiver, package of cigarettes, and a black wallet with flower logo.
Officers are continuing to investigate these crimes. Local policing resources are being utilized in addition to the OPP’s North West Region Forensic Identification Services Unit.
The key to protecting your vehicle is in your hands. Keep yourself from becoming an easy target by removing all valuables from your vehicle and take the time to properly secure your vehicle or park in well-lit areas.
Remember: “Lock It or Lose It!”
Police are asking the public to reports all mischief or theft incidents to the OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122.
At a minimum, if police recover stolen property, then officers can ensure it is returned to the rightful owner.
