Voyageurs roar back

It looked like smooth sailing for Al’s Racquet Stringing before wave after wave of enemy offensive attacks became too much to defend.
Al’s (1-3-1) watched a 3-0 second-half lead evaporate in settling for a 3-3 tie with a determined La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs U18 squad in Borderland Soccer League women’s division action last night.

Claire Crichton’s pair of first-half markers, coupled with several brilliant stops by keeper Lauren Pierce, had Al’s up 2-0 at halftime against a perplexed Voyageurs squad that had outscored Al’s 16-6 in their first two meetings this season.
Then Gabrielle Nussbaumer’s tally 10 minutes into the second half looked to be the death blow to any thoughts of the Vous (3-0-1) continuing its march towards an undefeated season.
But Myla Angus’ breakaway goal two minutes later against Carla Penner, who took over in net to start the second half, stoked the Voyageurs’ fire.
Katie Sinclair connected 10 minutes later to cut the lead to 3-2.
With all the momentum going their way, the Voyageurs then completed the comeback when Jessica Baxter’s shot from the left-wing found the far side of the net.
The two squads will meet again Monday at 7 p.m. in the next scheduled women’s game.
In men’s action, meanwhile, Kevin Metke won a mano-a-mano scoring battle against Chase McGuire to lift Pharmasave (2-2) to a 3-2 victory over La Place Rendez-Vous (1-2).
Metke netted his second hat trick in three games to supply all the offence for Pharamasave while McGuire had both goals for the Vous.
The Voyageurs are back at it Monday against Senior Pharmasave (1-2) at 7 p.m.
