Soccer action a washout

It’s a rare day when soccer players let weather drive them off the pitch.
But such was the case last night as the Borderland Soccer League cancelled both scheduled games due to the abundant rainfall.

On Tuesday, Senior Pharmasave took it on the chin as they kicked off defence of last year’s league title—falling 6-2 to Pharmasave.
Brett Bodnarchuk led Pharmasave with a pair of goals while Caleb Firth, Sam Berube, Isaac Firth, and Ryan Brady added singles.
Jim Nussbaumer scored both goals for Senior Pharmasave.
In women’s division action Tuesday, the first meeting between last year’s top two goal scorers turned into a high-scoring slugfest.
Jess Caul, who finished second last season with 18 goals, found the back of the net four times to pace Taggs to an 8-6 victory over Al’s Racquet Stringing.
Laureen Peters, who led the league with 30 goals last year, had a hat trick for Al’s.
Alexis Hampe, Sara Roach, Katie Stearns, and Tara McEachern also scored for Taggs.
Katie Beninger, Alyssa Penner and Claire Crichton added singles for Al’s.
League play is slated to resume Monday at 7 p.m. (weather permitting), with the Voyageurs facing Taggs in women’s play and Pharmasave taking on the Vous for the men.
