Mayor to report on conference
Mayor Roy Avis will give a report tonight on how meetings went with provincial ministers last week at the annual OGRA/ROMA conference in Toronto.
Mayor Avis and Coun. Ken Perry attended meetings with Transportation and Infrastructure minister Glen Murray, Natural Resources minister David Orazietti, Steven Del Duca, parliamentary assistant to Finance minister Charles Sousa, and Northern Development and Mines minister Michael Gravelle.
They also discussed the
recent property tax reassessments at the Resolute Forest Products mill here, and whether anything could be done by the province to help the town cope.
Also tonight, council also will vote on a bylaw to pass the new sewer and water rates.
As reported last month, these include a 1.76 percent increase for residential customers.
Overall, this means residents will go from paying $845.53 in 2013 to $860.53 in 2014—a difference of $15, or $1.25 per month.
The council portion of tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The committee of the whole will meet first starting at 5:30 p.m., but will be in-camera (behind closed doors) until 6:55.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a bylaw to approve an employment contract for the town’s new human resources manager;
