Muskie girls draw first blood

The Muskie girls’ hockey team edged the Kenora Broncos 1-0 in the opener of their two-game, total-goal NorWOSSA final last night at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The scoreless deadlock was broken just past the midway point of the third period when Claire Sandelovich’s shorthanded shot from the slot trickled past Broncos’ goalie Aryn Puls.

The visitors pressed for the equalizer in the final minutes but Muskie goalie Kate Parsons stood tall between the pipes to secure the win.
The series finale goes Sunday in Kenora starting at 7:30 p.m.
The Muskie boys’ hockey team, meanwhile, is a win away from capturing their seventh-straight NorWOSSA title when the finale of their two-game, total-goal series against the St. Thomas Aquinas Saints (Kenora) goes here tomorrow night.
The puck drops at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
The two teams battled to a 4-4 tie in the series opener Tuesday night in Kenora.
Justis Kennedy netted the game-tying goal for the hosts with just 36.5 seconds left in the third period.
Braden Webb led the Muskies with a pair of goals while Brandon Sinclair and Nolan Vold also tallied.
Dan Thomson scored twice for the Saints, with Jordan Olsen notching the other marker.
