Deadline for care packages nearing

For local residents who want to send some Christmas cheer to Canadian troops in Afghanistan, this Wednesday (Dec. 3) is the final day to make donations for the care packages being put together by the local Legion ladies’ auxiliary.
“The response has been absolutely wonderful so far,” said auxiliary president Sylvia Gunderson.

After Wednesday, auxiliary members will be going through the donations, divvying them up, and packaging them into Christmas bags.
Monetary donations also are being accepted in lieu of items, added Gunderson.
“Then if we’re short something, then we can go and buy it,” she explained.
Donations the Legion is looking for include things like:
•wrapped candy;
•non-alcohol wipes;
•lip balm;
•wrapped beef jerky;
•playing cards;
•puzzle books;
•non-breakable Christmas decorations and cards;
•single serving-sized drink crystal packages; and
•Kraft dinner
All donations can be dropped off at the Legion.
