Mayor Roy Avis and municipal planner Faye Flatt, who also is a board member with the Alzheimer Society of Kenora-Rainy River Districts, unfurled the Alzheimer Society flag in preparation for it to be raised in front of the Civic Centre. January is “Alzheimer Awareness Month” in the Town of Fort Frances. Alzheimer Society events this month include the “Penny for Your Thoughts” weigh-in Jan. 23-24 at Canadian Tire here, the Linda Johnston Memorial roast beef dinner in Rainy River on Jan. 24, and the Chefs’ Charitable Dinner and Auction at the Adventure Inn on Jan. 25.

Like so many other Borderland residents, Murray Beninger spent his afternoon Sunday clearing snow from his Front Street residence. The area received a dump of more than 25 cm (10 inches) of the white stuff on Saturday to go on top of an already heavy accumulation of snow so far this winter. Unfortunately, there’s a 50 percent chance we’ll get more snow this Friday.
